Trump: Europe Must Secure Ukraine, Not the U.S.
U.S. President Donald Trump has made it clear that Europe must take responsibility for Ukraine’s security, stating that Washington will not get involved.
Speaking during his first cabinet meeting, Trump’s remarks came ahead of his White House meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has been pushing for a U.S. security guarantee for Ukraine to prevent another invasion by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
However, Trump dismissed the idea, making it evident that Starmer is the only one advocating for such a commitment from the U.S.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to visit the Oval Office on Friday to sign a "very big" agreement on Ukraine’s mineral wealth.
According to Trump's cabinet meeting discussions:
- The agreement focuses on the extraction and trade of Ukraine’s minerals.
- Zelensky considers the deal "preliminary" and seeks additional agreements, particularly those involving U.S. security guarantees to deter future Russian aggression.
Trump had previously hinted at a billion-dollar minerals deal with Ukraine, reinforcing his focus on economic interests over military commitments.
