Governor Agbu Kefas Laying Foundation for Unprecedented Growth in Taraba – Prof. Kunini
Former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly and Governor Agbu Kefas’s Special Advisor on Policy and Strategy, Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini, has praised the governor’s administration for initiating groundbreaking development across the state.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Kunini outlined key initiatives being gradually implemented to ensure sustainable progress.
One of the administration’s biggest achievements, he noted, is curbing financial leakages that previously drained state resources.
As a result, Taraba’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has surged by 300%.
“The people of Taraba should prepare for unprecedented development under Governor Kefas’ leadership. The governor has ensured that the state’s IGR is safeguarded, and at its current growth rate, it will soon match what we receive from the Federation Account Allocation Committee,” Kunini stated.
Kunini emphasized that the governor’s broader economic strategy includes stopping illegal mining and deforestation while ensuring natural resources benefit the people.
He credited improved security for allowing farmers to return to their fields, helping reduce food shortages.
“A few years ago, insecurity was rampant. Kidnappings and armed attacks were common, even in Jalingo, the state capital. Many farmers abandoned their fields out of fear. Today, with improved security, farmers from across the country are coming to Taraba to cultivate dry-season rice,” he said.
Kunini added that enhanced security has boosted investor confidence, with ongoing discussions between the government and both local and international investors.
He expressed optimism that concrete investments would soon materialize, accelerating economic growth.
Kunini also commended the administration’s free education program, stating that it has greatly relieved parents and allowed them to focus on other financial needs.
He urged all Taraba residents, regardless of political affiliation, to support the government’s vision.
“Developing a state like Taraba cannot be the work of one man. It requires collective effort from everyone, even if it is just by avoiding unnecessary distractions for the government,” he said.
