Kwara State MACBAN Chairman, Alhaji Idris Abubakar, Assassinated Outside His Home
The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kwara State, Alhaji Idris Abubakar, was shot dead on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the entrance of his home in Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi, Ilorin East Local Government Area.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the assassination on Sunday, stating that officers recovered five spent 7.62mm shells at the crime scene. According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, his remains have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a thorough investigation into the attack. The Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, assured the public that those responsible will be brought to justice and urged residents to remain calm while providing any useful information to aid the investigation.
Idris Abubakar was buried on Sunday after a janazah prayer at his residence in Zango-Kulende.
The Public Relations Officer of MACBAN, Abubakar Muhammad Kangodabe, officially announced his passing, stating:
"With deep sorrow, we announce the tragic passing of our esteemed chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, who was killed by unknown gunmen yesterday at 10 p.m."
The association prayed for strength for his loved ones as they mourn his loss.
