Nigerian Army Intensifies Counterterrorism Operations Across Multiple States

The Nigerian Army has launched a series of successful offensives against terrorist strongholds in Borno State, significantly weakening their operations. The military operations, which took place in Bama, Gwoza, Chibok, and other areas, led to the elimination of several terrorists, including notorious commander Abba Alai, also known as Amirul Khahid of Alafa, who had been a high-priority target on security watchlists.

During the offensives, troops destroyed explosives planted along their path, rescued an elderly woman held captive for ten years, and discovered a large cache of deadly weapons.

In Katsina State, troops successfully repelled a terrorist attack, using superior firepower to force the attackers to retreat into the forest. Following the confrontation, a senior terrorist leader in Jibia Local Government Area surrendered to security forces, handing over two AK-47 rifles and releasing ten hostages, including three children and seven women.

In Zamfara State, soldiers engaged another group of terrorists, killing one while the others fled, abandoning two motorcycles.

In Niger State, security forces engaged terrorists in Dakwala and Chikuba, forcing them to retreat into the dense forest. The military then conducted clearance operations, destroying terrorist hideouts and recovering thirty-six abandoned motorcycles.

In Kwara State, troops raided a known kidnapper’s hideout in Karunji village. The criminals, upon sighting the approaching forces, fled and abandoned their captives.

In Delta State, the military arrested Ekene Ifeanyi, a high-ranking IPOB/ESN commander, at his hideout in Issele Asagba Forest, Oshimili South Local Government Area. Investigations revealed that Ifeanyi played a key role in establishing IPOB/ESN terrorist cells in the region.

Following these successful operations, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff, commended the soldiers for their bravery and commitment. He acknowledged their dedication to national security and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring their welfare remains a top priority.
