Notorious Kidnapper Killed by Own Gang During Failed Rescue in Kaduna
Infamous kidnapper Salisu Mohammed, also known as Dogo Saleh, was killed in Kwassau Forest, Kagarko LGA, Kaduna State, during a failed rescue attempt by his gang.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed this on Wednesday, revealing that Mohammed, a senior lieutenant of the wanted crime boss Boka, died in a gun battle between security forces and his associates.
Key Events Leading to His Death:
- Mohammed was arrested on January 9, 2025, in Gidan Abe, Kagarko LGA, while traveling towards Bwari Area Council via the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.
- During interrogation, he confessed to orchestrating multiple kidnappings along the Lokoja-Abuja Highway, with his gang of about 100 heavily armed criminals.
- He admitted to possessing anti-aircraft weapons, AK-47 rifles, and General-Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs).
- His crimes included the kidnapping of a customs officer and his wife, a female police officer and her children, and leading an attack on a naval checkpoint on January 5, 2025, which resulted in two fatalities and stolen weapons.
On March 4, security forces launched an operation to capture another notorious bandit, Abdu Musa (Kanabaro), who had been terrorizing travelers. However, as the operatives advanced into Kwassau Forest at 11:01 PM, they were ambushed by suspected Kanabaro associates, in what appeared to be a coordinated rescue attempt for Mohammed.
After a fierce gunfight, the bandits retreated into the forest, but during the chaos, Mohammed was fatally shot by his own gang members.
Aftermath & Security Response:
- Mohammed was taken to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
- Security operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle and a magazine with two live rounds at the scene.
- Inspector Suleiman Adamu of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit sustained minor injuries but was treated and discharged.
- In response, security patrols and surveillance have been intensified across Kagarko LGA and major travel routes to track down the fleeing bandits.
