FCT Police Mandate Clearance for Hikers and Campers Amid Security Concerns

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has instructed the public, particularly youth groups and hiking enthusiasts, to obtain police clearance before engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking or camping.

This directive stems from "recent security concerns and the need to ensure the safety of all participants," according to a statement released on Tuesday by SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, emphasized that remote areas are more susceptible to criminal activities, making it crucial for participants to notify law enforcement before embarking on such trips. He urged hikers and campers to coordinate with the police to receive guidance on safe routes and security arrangements.

"The FCT Police remain committed to working with the public to reduce security risks by offering expert advice on chosen locations and ensuring proper monitoring where necessary," Adewale stated.

To prevent cases of missing persons or other emergencies, the Commissioner advised organizers to ensure all participants are accounted for during outdoor activities. He also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities and request security coverage when needed.

For notifications and inquiries, the FCT Police Command has provided the following emergency contact numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
