NIS Arrests 51 Illegal Migrants in Nasarawa State
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has apprehended 51 illegal migrants, all of Malian nationality, in New Nyanya, Karu Local Council, Nasarawa State. The individuals were detained for lacking valid travel or residency permits.
Confirming the arrest, NIS Public Relations Officer ACI A.S. Akinlabi stated that the group, comprising 40 men and 11 women, was discovered at their hideouts following credible intelligence.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the migrants may have been victims of smuggling and human trafficking. “None of them presented valid travel documents or proof of legal residency when questioned,” Akinlabi revealed.
He added that the individuals are currently undergoing further profiling and investigation.
