Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Explains Helicopter Visit to Kogi State
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has explained why she opted to visit her constituents by helicopter instead of traveling by road.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan revealed that the decision was suggested by her husband due to security concerns and government-imposed restrictions.
The senator received a warm welcome from supporters in Kogi State on Tuesday, despite an existing ban on processions and protests. In Ihima, Okehi LGA, supporters from the five local government areas of Kogi Central gathered early to receive her.
Detailing her reasons for the aerial arrival, she stated:
“When I saw the prohibition of fishing and water activities, the ban on convoys, and a list of checkpoints that suddenly appeared, barring entrance into my senatorial district—which spans from Ibilo to Kogi via Auchi, Okene, Abuja, Lokoja, Akure, Ikare, and other major roads—the situation was very intense, and I knew there would be trouble.”
She further explained that her husband suggested using a helicopter to land directly on their private land opposite their family home, avoiding any potential restrictions or conflicts.
“With that move, we broke no law, and the people gathered right in my compound. The road you see us walking through was constructed by me, so it’s not a government road or facility. Therefore, I broke no law. I’m a good citizen of Nigeria, a law-abiding one at that. I’m sure you can attest to that.”
